How do I season a cast iron skillet?

Seasoning your Skillet

The best way to season cast iron is to wash it well with dishwashing liquid. Rinse with clear water, and dry thoroughly. Grease the dried pan with shortening or vegetable oil, rubbing the oil deeply into the pan. Place the pan in a preheated oven at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and cool.
